A few weeks ago while wrapping blind dates in the stockroom Maeve and I realized we were having the same conversation yet again. No, we weren't writing. Yes, we wished we were but {insert excuse}. We even had ideas we were excited to pursue but something always got in the way. So we made a pact: If you write, I'll write. 

 

No more mood boards, or chasing shiny new concepts, or pretending to outline for the millionth time. This summer we'd write the damn thing.

The agreement is simple: write a shitty COMPLETE first draft (~80,00 words) in 100 days. We shook on it and agreed we had to get Alyssa a cinnamon roll if we missed the mark. High stakes, I know.

Then someone asked if Beguiled had any writing groups and it didn't take long for us to wonder what would happen if others joined our pact? A community of writers working toward the same thing with a focus on creation over perfection.

Jodi Picoult said "I may write garbage, but you can always edit garbage. You can't edit a blank page."

​

So that's the first draft pact. A free, community writing challenge for anyone who has been meaning to write a book and is tired of waiting for the perfect time to start. 

 

We'll be writing alongside you for 100 days, cheering each other on and celebrating milestones together in the Discord.
